Roy Strange (Driller Roy) . . . Many thanks to all who have helped and accepted me especially
Mike C and TMack.
Balance sheet for 45 days in kiting; 0 kite repairs, 0 bandaids, 2 months of hard self taught lessons
before I found the Kansas City Kite Boarding Club. New ways of looking at life have emerged.
I don't have my next house payment but I have the money stashed
in a envelope for my next new kite. I get laid off for 2 days and I'm happy, I'm trying to build surfboards.
My wife Jeanne says to me "I'm thinking of leaving you after 28 years". I finally got her calmed down.
She said "I don't want to raise another teenager", I considered that a compliment.
At age 18 I went to surf at Padre Island Texas. Also at 18 I was a homeless biker in La Jolla California
with a 7ft surfboard on a 750 Honda and couldn't swim. At 19 I was surfing at Cape Canaveral Florida.
When I was 21 I was first place champ at Golden Colorado in hang gliding.
At 25 I was first place Wyoming State hang gliding champ. At 27 I did parachuting and Sailplaning in
to Rocky Mountains. It was 2004 when I first saw a KiteSurfer at Padre Island Texas.
November 2009 I couldn't walk. It wasn't till December 2009 that I got my leg fixed, I could run again.
Shortly after I bought a 6m kite , became self taught.
In February 2010 I went to Florida for lessons and found 3 idiot instructors and 1 good one.
I bought a new 11m Best Kite march 2010 and found www.KiteSurfies.com and got hooked up with the local guys of the
Kansas City Kite Boarding Club. I'm trying to Kitesurf at Smithville Lake. I've been making happy progress since.
My handle on the Web is Driller Roy which comes from the lyrics
"He's a drifter and a driller of oil wells, an old school man of the world" of David Allen Coe's song
"Desperados Waiting for a Train" as I have drilled oil, gas, steam, and water wells in Wyoming, California,
Mexico, Montana, Spain, Egypt and Missouri I took that description for myself.
At the age of 10 I had a 3ft box kite and thought if I had a bigger one I could fly.
I was right and have been flying ever since
